INGREDIENTS

Fennel*, chamomile flowers*, peppermint*, cardamom*, lemon balm*, lemongrass*, valerian root*, sage*, lavender flowers*, nutmeg*

Fennel: Fennel is one of the oldest known medicinal plants in the world. It belongs to the Umbelliferae family and has been popular internationally for thousands of years for its intense aroma. Fennel has a spicy-sweet flavour that is slightly reminiscent of anise.

Chamomile: Chamomile was named “the most widely used herb in medicine” as early as the late 16th century by the famous physician and botanist Hieronymus Bock. Thanks to its numerous beneficial properties, it was named the first “official herb of the year” in 1987, and in 2002 it was awarded the “medicinal plant of the year” award.

Valerian Root: Valeriana officinalis, the botanical name for valerian, is derived from the Latin word “valere,” meaning “powerful” and “to be healthy.” It grows in Europe, Western Asia, the Far East and Siberia on forest banks and edges, and its flowers give off a subtle scent.

Peppermint: First discovered in 1696 and probably the result of a chance cross between Mentha aquatica and Mentha spicata, it is now one of the most important medicinal plants in the world. Peppermint has a slightly spicy flavour and is popular all over the world for its refreshing aroma and its valuable components. In 2004 it was chosen as the medicinal plant of the year.

Cardamom: Cardamom has been one of the most popular spices throughout the Asian and Arab world for thousands of years. Its delicate, spicy-sweet aroma makes it ideal for use in a variety of dishes, from spicy curries to spiced Christmas sweets. Thanks to its essential oils and other important nutrients, cardamom is also one of the oldest medicinal plants in the world.

Melissa: Named an official plant in 1988, in the Middle Ages it was compulsory to grow it in the gardens of all monasteries. In addition to essential oils, lemon balm contains numerous tannins, flavonoids and mineral salts that make it an important medicinal plant. Its leaves have a fresh, spicy and citrus flavour.

Lemongrass: In Southeast Asia, this spice and aromatic medicinal plant is also known as “fever grass.”

It contains essential oils and has an intense and fresh citrus flavour. To date, it is unknown where this plant from the grass family, used mainly in Asian cuisine, originally comes from.

Sage: The name of this spice and medicinal plant from the Mediterranean area comes from the Latin word “salvare”, which means “to heal”. Because of its fresh, spicy and slightly bitter taste and its important components, sage was already paid for with gold in ancient China.

Lavender: The seductive scent of lavender is everywhere around the Mediterranean Sea. This medicinal plant from the Labiatae family is native to this region, but is also cultivated all over the world due to its wonderful, nutrient-rich flowers. Lavender has a spicy, acidic and slightly bitter taste and contains valuable essential oils.

Nutmeg: Nutmeg is the seed of the nutmeg tree. It has a slightly bitter and slightly spicy aroma and has been used as a spice for many centuries. It also plays an important role as a medicinal plant: in the Middle Ages it was considered one of the most highly prized medicinal plants and sometimes even had to be paid for with gold. Nutmeg is still one of the important spices in ancient Indian Ayurvedic medicine.
